Bat Watch 2013
I had the opportunity to travel to Nicaragua with the Organization for Bat Conservation and Fiona Reid to participate in the 2013 Batwatch. The group consisted of twelve bat and nature enthusiasts from North America and four Nicaraguan bat scientists and students. We met in Managua on February 24, 2013 and traveled by bus and boat to the Refugio Bartola on the San Juan River (just across the river from the border of Costa Rica). We spent 6 days at Refugio Bartola surveying the local flora and fauna. We were able to catch and count 35 various species of bats in the area. This was my first experience with bat netting.
